Super Bowl XLII is an American football game that was played between the American Football Conference champions the New England Patriots and the National Football Conference champions the New York Giants to determine which team would be the 2007 season champions for the National Football League.

This game is known as one of the biggest upsets in the history of Super Bowl games. The New York Giants came to the game with a season record of 14-6 and defeated the New England Patriots, who held an 18-1 record for the season. The New England Patriots were prevented from being the next undefeated team since the Miami Dolphins finished 17-0 in 1972. The New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots by three points with a final score of 17-14.

With that, the New York Giants became the first wild card team in the National Football Conference to be victorious at a Super Bowl. The New York Giants were also the fifth wild card, fourth in more than a decade, from any conference to win a National Football League championship. The win was the seventh National Football League championship for the franchise as well as the third time to win the Super Bowl. It was the first championship title for New York since 1991 at the Super Bowl XXV.

Tom Coughlin was the head coach for the New York Giants and Bill Belichick was the head coach for the New England Patriots. "Who Wants It More?" became the Super Bowl XLII tagline.

The game took place in Glendale, Arizona, at the University of Phoenix Stadium on February 3, 2008. This game was kind of a rematch for the regular season's last game in which the New England Patriots won 38-35. This was the first time that any team had a perfect regular season since the Miami Dolphins in 1972, as well as the first perfect season since the schedule was expanded to a sixteen game season in 1978. The New England Patriots came to Super Bowl XLII favored by twelve points.

Super Bowl XLII was the most viewed Super Bowl in the history of the televised game. There were 97.5 million fans tuned in from the United States. Close to 150 million viewers tuned in for some part of the broadcast. With a rating of 43.3, the game brought in Nielsen's highest ratings for the Super Bowl since Super Bowl XXXIV. The game broadcast was the second most watched program ever on television in the United States.

The Super Bowl XLI is an American football game that took place on the 4th of February in 2007 in Miami Gardens Florida at Dolphin Stadium. This game was played to decide the National Football League champion for the regular season in 2006. The kickoff time for the game was just minutes before half past six in the evening. The teams that participated in this game were the American Football League champions the Indianapolis Colts with a 16-4 record and the National Football Conference champions with a record of 15-4, the Chicago bears.

The game came at the end of long Super Bowl droughts for both of the teams that played. The Colts first appeared in the Super Bowl during their Baltimore tenure in the 1970 season Super Bowl V. In 1984, the Colts moved to Indianapolis. The Chicago Bears first appeared at Super Bowl XX in 1985. This was not the first time two pre-1960 teams met at the Super Bowl. The first time this happened was at Super Bowl XIV when the Pittsburgh Steelers met up with the Los Angeles Rams.

The quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, Peyton Manning was awarded the title of Most Valuable Player for the game. He completed twenty-five of the thirty-eight passes he threw for two hundred forty-seven yards and one touch down with an interception. This was the first Super Bowl title for Peyton Manning after a ten-year long career of being the most dominating quarterback in the league.

According to Neilson Media Research, ninety-three million viewers tuned in to watch Super Bowl XLI. It was number four among the most viewed television programs in United States history, after Super Bowl XXX, Super Bowl XLII and the M*A*S*H series finale.

The Indianapolis Colts proved victorious over the Chicago Bears with a final score of 29 - 17. This was the third time that the Super Bowl had two players that rushed for over a hundred yards. The Indianapolis Colts' Dominic Rhodes rushed for one hundred fourteen yards and the Chicago Bears' Thomas Jones rushed for one hundred thirteen yards. Coach Tony Dungy became the third individual to win the Super Bowl and both a head coach and a player. The first two men to accomplish such a feat were Mike Ditka and Tom Flores.

The price for advertisements aired during the game was higher than it had been the previous year, with thirty-second spots costing as much as $2.6 million.
